Three days with my Dot: interviews, Airbnb host, and dinner at my door

added

three days with OpenAI's dot and i'm really liking it (not sponsored!) it's been filtering thoughtful questions for my interviews, coordinating with my Airbnb host, and helping me get food to my door when i wasn't feeling well. i keep offloading little thoughts throughout the day and it's actually doing something useful with them. there's something surprisingly comforting about that. still early, but this feels closer to the kind of AI i want in my life. more context, less scrolling, a little more room to be a person.

@ashebytes (Ashe Magalhaes) put her ChatGPT Dot to work for three days: the Dot filtered interview questions about rogue agents, coordinated with her Airbnb host, and - when she was feeling unwell - suggested miso soup and chicken teriyaki and ordered it via Uber Eats with her approval. Real first-hand results; creator states "not sponsored!".

My "dot" just built me a list of 500 highly targeted sales leads. It should be finished with the whole country by tomorrow. This is worth thousands of dollars.

If you haven't tried out "dots" yet, this is another one of those "*AI* won't take your job, *someone who knows how to use* *AI better than you* will take your job" moments. It's got its own little computer, so you can kind of see what's going on (picture at the end). It seems to work in spurts, but I'm entirely sure what it's doing. For the last 5 hours, it's been building me a sales leads list. Now, I'm in an industry where everybody has a website. But there are a lot of industries like that nowadays... I know the data is good, because I just paid for a list like this, so I have one to compare it against. Frankly, my dot's list is much better. I paid $223 and change for about 350 leads. In the last 5 hours, my dot has put together 1,400 leads. I'm expecting the final to be around 3,500 leads, based on what geographic areas it has covered so far and what I'm asking it to cover (20 largest metro areas). That's enough for me for now. I was, not too long ago, seriously considering paying upwards of $4,000 for a nationwide list of my prospects. Not that seriously, but I thought I might have to do it at some point. So this new tool has saved me a lot of money. And that's only half the story here. Because, that nationwide list would have had 15,000 businesses on it. And frankly, a lot of the 350 leads are junk. There are probably fewer than 200 high value targets on that list, and that's being somewhat optimistic. Because my dot is building the list, I was able to tell it to identify only specific types of businesses in my industry, rather than getting the whole NAIC code (or inevitably fail when trying to filter by NAIC subclass, due to inaccurate and incomplete data). I can tell already that it's worth calling these leads. It's well-organized, rather than being an amalgamation of decades' worth of legacy recordkeeping systems, and it's current.
