OpenAI DOTS, always-on agents with their own cloud computer, are here! In this video, I set up my first dot and learn how it works, and give my first impressions. I walk through connecting my apps and computer, customizing j, and asking how it works with Codex. Calling your dot versus voice chat and dictation. These are my first impressions from setup and conversation. I will do another follow-up video with how it works more in depth.

I asked my AI agent to put its avatar on an ESP32 screen. 🤖 First flash failed. The agent diagnosed it, installed a fix and reflashed. 38 minutes 36 seconds from the ask: “hello, I’m Dot” on the round display. The chip displays the avatar and greeting; the AI model itself isn’t running on it. Real timings, with the waiting cut out. The AI assistant voice is synthetic.

I asked my AI where my project was up to. From my phone, it checked my connected Mac and found what was finished and what still needed building. This is OpenAI's Dot. I named mine Dex. Setup was simple: pick a name, pick a look, save. My existing account plugins loaded straight away, and Dex started suggesting things it could help with. What interests me most is having one place to ask about my Codex projects. It can work in the cloud and with files on my connected Mac, with the same Dot available on phone, desktop and web. You can call it too. My first call didn't connect, and the project lookup took a while and needed clarification. Early days, but being able to pick up my work without remembering which chat I left it in is something I'm keen to keep testing. #OpenAI #Codex #AIAgents
